Attorney Profile

When navigating your way through a family law issue, the right guidance can make all the difference. Brandon A. Bernstein provides attentive and cost-effective legal services to people in Bethesda, throughout Montgomery County, and the Washington D.C. area.

Maryland divorce lawyer Brandon Bernstein

Brandon understands that when you’re facing a divorce or family law issue, you are not just “choosing an attorney.” You are choosing a partner to rely on for their expertise and experience while you make major decisions about the direction of your finances, family, and future. Brandon takes this responsibility seriously and has dedicated his professional life to getting the best possible outcome for his clients.

He has extensive experience handling the full range of family law issues, including divorce, alimony, child custody child support, property distribution, and prenuptial agreements, among many other matters. Brandon regularly represents individuals in high-net-worth divorce cases. Such cases often raise unique financial issues, such as complex asset identification and valuation, forensic accounting, division of businesses, and extensive tax implications. Brandon has handled these types of cases for over a decade, giving him the skills necessary to tackle some of the most complex issues divorce law presents. He takes the time to ensure that he has a deep grasp of each client’s needs and proposes creative solutions designed to achieve the client’s goals.

Brandon practices family law exclusively. He has extensive experience navigating the complexities of Maryland family law, and clients appreciate his sage and dependable counsel during some of the most difficult times of their lives. He goes to great lengths to ensure that his clients fully understand the legal issues their cases present, the options available to them, and the pros and cons of pursuing each strategy. He gives his clients the tools necessary to make informed decisions about their cases.

Most importantly, Brandon understands that family law issues are often best resolved in a civil and collaborative manner, which is why he dedicates a substantial portion of his practice to mediation. His qualifications in mediation include a 40-hour divorce mediation training, 20-hour custody and child access mediation training, and 20-hour property and financial issues mediation training. Mediation offers an informal, collaborative, and economical alternative to traditional family law litigation, and Brandon is eager to help his clients take advantage of it where appropriate.

In the event cases cannot settle, Brandon has extensive experience litigating cases to trial. He handles every phase of the litigation process, including drafting pleadings, deposing witnesses, gathering and presenting evidence, filing pre-trial and post-trial motions, examining facts and expert witnesses, and crafting persuasive arguments. In the courtroom, Brandon is a fierce advocate for his client’s interests.

Since 2014, Brandon has been honored to receive recognition from Super Lawyers, first being named as a Rising Star in Maryland, before then receiving recognition by the service as a Super Lawyer and as a top-rated family law attorney in Bethesda, Maryland. This award is based on both Brandon’s performance for his clients and feedback from his peers in the legal community. Only a small percentage of attorneys in Maryland are given this award. While it’s flattering to be recognized by Super Lawyers, it pales in comparison to the satisfaction of securing a great outcome for a client. Brandon is happy to receive awards but ultimately is driven by the satisfaction of his clients and the results he can achieve for them.

Brandon has a wealth of experience in working through complex or difficult family law situations to get the best results for his clients.  He offers free consultations to new clients.
